This is a one-year laboratory course designed for college-bound students with career interests within the following areas: the molecular and cellular aspects of life; the chemical and structural basis of life; energetics of life; growth and reproduction in plants and animals; evolution of modern plants and domestic livestock species; plant and animal genetics; taxonomy of plants; animals; humans and the environment; nutrition in animals; health and diseases in animals; and the similarities between animals and humans. This course includes extensive laboratory components to connect the concepts of life science with applied science applications; General Science principles; and other curricular areas; including written and oral reporting skills. Students will be exposed to the FFA; supervised occupational experience programs; and careers in Agriculture. This course meets the Life Science graduation requirement. This course meets the District's third-year science requirement and partially fulfills the UC and CSU lab science requirement. Note: Students who have successfully completed Science 8 Honors; enrolling in Biology as a 9th grade student; are also required to complete Chemistry and Physics in grades 10-12 to fulfill their science contract if they do not enroll in General Science.
