Course description

This CTE biotechnology and genetics courseintroduces students to modern molecularbiotechnology. All Biotechnology classes at CHSare Career & Technical Education courses whichprovide opportunities for Work-Based Learning;leadership development through the HOSA club;and relevant industry and job training.Students gain hands-on; real-world labexperience as they learn advanced molecularbiology topics including DNA structure andreplication; protein synthesis; and geneexpression and regulation. Other topics includegenetic engineering and bacterialtransformation; agricultural biotechnology;environmental biotechnology; DNA sequencingand biotechnology manufacturing. Labexperience includes sterile techniques; PCR; gelelectrophoresis; bacterial transformation andgenetic engineering.
