Course description

The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth- knowledge of the marine environment, including physical, chemical, and biological processes. The content will include, but not limited to, the diversity of marine organisms, physical and biological characteristics of the planktonic, benthic, and nektonic regions, and potential resources of the oceans. Laboratory activities and field work will reinforce the concepts covered in class. Marine Science is the study of the oceans on planet Earth. The course of study will begin with a brief look at the history of oceanography and the history of the formation of the earth itself. Then, students study the four major divisions of oceanography: geological oceanography, chemical oceanography, physical oceanography, and biological oceanography.
