Course description

Academy English 1 is a course designed for the verbally gifted student whose love of reading and writing becomes part of a toolbox to build exemplary English skills. The content studied is college-level literature; mainly the classic and archetypal themes and motifs found in both ancient and contemporary texts. Writing genres are introduced; practiced; and applied; with a heavy emphasis on persuasive techniques as well as an introduction to literary analysis.† Critical inquiry and thinking skills are exercised and applied to both classroom discussion and responses to literature.
