BIOTECHNOLOGY SCI 424/425Year10; 11; 121 period/.5 credit per semesterEquivalency: 1 semester = 1 semester Science or Career and Tech credit

NOTE: This is a two semester course that can be taken for any combination of Academic or Career and Technical Edu-cation credit.

Prerequisites: Biology with a B or better and completion of or concurrent enrollment in Chemistry.In this course students will explore a diversity of topics such as DNA analysis; genetic engineering and stem cells; as wellas biotechnology related to medicine; global health; environmental issues and bioethics. Through hands-on labexperiences; students will develop skills and techniques that are typical of research and medical laboratories. Careeropportunities will be explored in class and through field trips. Students will complete a year-long biotechnology project

and have the option to participate in the 2015 regional Bio Expo Science Fair. This is an ideal course for students inter-ested in biological research; medicine and/or health care as well as for those students who would like to explore current

topics in bioscience and bioethics.
