Course description

In this literature class, we will read myths, legends, fairy tales, and folk traditions from a wide range of cultures and time periods. With such a wealth of material to choose from, we are going to narrow the selections by focusing on the story pattern of the Hero's Journey. This is a motif that we can find from the oldest recorded legends, up to the most modern pop culture phenomena. It is also a way for any person, but most especially a young person, to cast the challenges and triumphs of their own life in heroic terms. We will intertwine the myth with the memoir in this class. Where will your adventure take you?
