Course title

CP Marine Science

Pre-requisite

CP Earth Science and Biology

Course description

I have already taken Earth Science and Biology which was a prerequisite to take Marine Science which is a Lab Science and a combination of Oceanography and Marine Biology which would be an integrated science because it blends core disciplines like biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science to study the ocean. I would like it to count as my 3rd science. Course Description below: Marine Science is a combination of Oceanography and Marine Biology and includes investigations into the ocean floor, ocean properties, marine animals and plants (and things not quite one or the other!), and the human impact on the environment. We will focus on the physical ocean, plankton, algae, and marine plants in the first semester. The second semester will focus on invertebrates, fish, marine reptiles and birds, and mammals. Issues regarding climate change, endangered species and miscellaneous human impact issues on the oceans will be covered throughout the course. Labs and many of the questions generated in this course stress scientific critical thinking. Students will conduct pre-designed labs and dissections in order to learn particular scientific concepts. In addition, there will be extensive diagrams and graphing activities, and the use of a course-long logbook into which all instructional products will be accrued. There is also a course long project where students will create a marine storybook focused on ecosystems.
