In CRC Statistics and Data Science, students build on their understanding of the relationship between mathematics and the world developed in CRC Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Throughout the year, students engage in a Youth Participatory Action Research project focused on issues relevant to their communities. Empowered with designing their own research study, in semester 1 students will learn data collection methods that mitigate bias and design studies that intentionally include marginalized perspectives. Students will also begin learning skills and practices necessary for analyzing the data they collect. Using culturally responsive contexts, in semester 2 students will develop an understanding of inferential statistics and apply these tools to analyze the results of their own research studies designed in semester 1. The course culminates in a presentation in which students share their methodology, data visualizations, analysis, limitations, and conclusions.
