Course title
Earth Science: Part 1 VirtualPre-requisite
N/ACourse description
In this course; you?ll learn about the various branches of Earth science. You?ll study the steps of the scientific method and learn the differences among scientific hypotheses; theories; and laws. In addition; you?ll learn how scientists communicate their findings. You?ll learn about the two types of weathering?physical and chemical?and some of the processes that contribute to each type. You?ll study different types of surface water; such as streams; lakes; and wetlands. You'll learn about the layers of Earth's atmosphere. You'll learn about weather and the world's oceans. You'll study climate and climate change. In this course; you?ll discover how change across the Earth?s surface is driven by complex geological processes. You?ll learn about plate tectonics; one of the fundamental phenomena that drive global change. You?ll study the fundamentals of geological time and many important events that have occurred throughout Earth?s history. You?ll be introduced to the evidence for these important events and how they have shaped all aspects of Earth?s surface and the atmosphere. You?ll learn about renewable and nonrenewable resources; as well as how the uses of each have contributed to changes in the environment. Students are given an opportunity to identify core concepts through the reading material and then apply that knowledge in review activities. Comprehension will be assessed through formative activities and multiple-choice exams.
