Course description

Moving pictures are a unique art form; combining visual design; drama; storytelling; music; and more. This course examines the history; theory; technology; and art of film from its beginnings in the 19th century to the present. Students will learn to analyze the fundamental techniques of filmmaking (narrative; staging; cinematography; editing; and sound) and their artistic effects in classic and contemporary films. Students will apply their understanding through a variety of individual and collaborative video production exercises and creative projects throughout the year.†
