2 semesters of 1st year science, Biology 1, Biology 2
Course description
Forensic Science is a two-semester lab science course designed for 3rd year core science credit. Students interested in criminal justice are encouraged to complete both semesters of Forensic Science as their final year of science requirement for high school graduation. Students develop critical thinking skills and become fluent in scientific method and reasoning. Laboratory investigations are an integral part of this course. Investigative, hands-on lab activities that address the high school inquiry standards are central to the understanding of the topics of this course. Students are introduced to the laboratory techniques of criminal investigators, and learn what methods they use in the criminal investigation process. Forensic science is a truly holistic science in that it combines many fields, with the crucial addition of legal standards and rules of evidence. The class is focused on hands-on activities that follow procedures used in the current criminal study field.
