Course Description: Biology is the study of life; which was created by God. It is in the studying ofthat life that we can learn more about the Creator and the detail in which life is created. The courseis an introduction to the structure and functions of cells with an emphasis on the correlationbetween structure and function at the molecular level. Students will have opportunities to learnthrough team collaboration; group discussions; and project-based learning. Theories of evolutionwill be explored from a Biblical perspective to determine how the theories hold up against BiblicalTruths. As an honors class; students will be challenged to develop a statement of belief regardingthe origin of life by researching and exploring Biblical and secular positions; and most importantlyscripture. Students will engage in discussions of bioethical issues.Laboratory Description: The laboratory provides practical; hands-on learning experiences and isimportant to the success in the class. The laboratory work will focus on scientific methodology;especially methods of cultivation; identification; and the control of microorganisms.
