Course description
This Integrated Statistics and Quantitative Reasoning (ISQR) course empowers students to navigate our data-driven society by integrating quantitative, algebraic, statistical, geometric, and data literacy concepts. Students will develop skills to interpret and make decisions based on authentic data, including financial, health, and civic information, addressing both very large and very small quantities. The course emphasizes summarizing large datasets, analyzing multi-variable relationships, and detecting inaccuracies in media. Through mathematical and statistical modeling, students will explore diverse applications like population growth, disease spread, and financial scenarios. A deeper understanding of proportional reasoning and conditional probability will be fostered, alongside critical analysis of data collection ethics and potential errors in data-driven conclusions. This ISQR course cultivates both statistical and mathematical thinking, preparing students to critically analyze and present numerical and statistical arguments in various real-world contexts.
