Math in Society
Math in Society is a finite mathematics course focused on quantitative tools and techniques relevant to decision-making in business and public policy. Core topics include graph theory, list processing algorithms, conflict resolution, linear programming, transportation models, voting theory, apportionment, statistics, probability, and financial mathematics. Students engage with complex, non-routine problems, translating real-world situations into symbolic notation, analyzing data, comparing data sets, and verifying the reasonableness of their results. The course emphasizes critical thinking and quantitative reasoning, challenging students to apply varied approaches and select the most suitable mathematical models to solve problems effectively. Math in Society may qualify as a Dual Credit or College in the High School course option where available, contingent upon meeting required placement scores.
