This course meets UC/CSU (D) and district graduaon requirements for life science credit or physical science credit. Plant and Soil Science is a yearlong course that provides students with opportunies to parcipate in a variety of acvies including laboratory work. An introduction to the chemical; physical; and biological properes of soils; the origin; classificaon; and distribution of soils and their influence on people and food producon; the management and conservation of soils; and the environmental impact of soil use. Topics further explore calculaon of ferlizer applicaon rates and procedures for applicaon; irrigaon and drainage; the taxonomy of plants; the various plant components and their funcons; plant growth; plant reproducon and propagaon; photosynthesis and respiraon; environmental factors affecng plant growth. Components will also include parcipaon in Supervised Agricultural Experience Projects; FFA; CTE Career exploraon and Leadership.
