Course description

In this course; we examine American novels and short-stories written since the turn of the millennium. In particular; we focus on the concept of Zeitgeist; which translates to “the spirit of the times.” We read and analyze recently published critically acclaimed works and discuss what about their form and content brought them such acclaim and praise. We question how these works capture and depict the social and political landscape of contemporary America. Finally; in addition to the critical reading and writing required for the course; students will be asked to complete an extensive creative writing project that depicts their American experience.
