Course description

Pre-calculus weaves together previous study of algebra;geometry; and functions into a preparatory course forcalculus. The course focuses on the mastery of criticalskills and exposure to new skills necessary for success insubsequent math courses. Topics include linear; quadratic;exponential; logarithmic; radical; polynomial; and rationalfunctions; systems of equations; and conic sections in the firstsemester. The second semester covers trigonometric ratiosand functions; inverse trigonometric functions; applicationsof trigonometry; including vectors and laws of cosine andsine; polar functions and notation; and arithmetic of complexnumbers. Cross-curricular connections are made throughoutthe course to calculus; art; history; and a variety of other fieldsrelated to mathematics.
