Course description

PRHS is excited to offer the same content of the last half of Science Academy 2 and all of Science Academy 3 into one accelerated year. This is the second year of a 2-year program that will encourage students to actively engage in science. The accelerated pathway doesn’t eliminate the requirement of a 3rd year of science, it just gives a student more options of what to take in their junior year. Following new federal and state guidelines, this rigorous science course explores topics in all four disciplines of science (Earth, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). As an accelerated course, more will be asked of the student in terms of reading and independent assignments. The goal of this course is to allow students to cover the concepts of the science academy quickly and get them in more upper level science electives in their Junior year, perfect for students thinking about an education and career in STEM fields. Topics of study include the physics of a car accident, the digital world, deep earth history, local and global ecology, and modern advances in batteries, fuel cells, and clean alternative energy.
