Course description

The purpose of this course is to introduce various audio and visual technologies with an emphasis in cinematography and aesthetic foundations of composition.

Information on careers; job applications; interviewing; equipment; lighting; audio; video; television; computer generated graphics; techniques and production skills will be provided in this course.

This course begins with standards and terminology of modern broadcast and interactive digital media and move to investigative approaches used in digital editing.

Students will learn and understand the history and theories of artistic and technological expression in diverse cultures; as well as the effect of cultural influences on films and video historically.

Students will focus on audience response with the interaction between video; natural sound; text; dialogue; music; and the special effects.

Students will create and edit audio-visual projects and showcase their ideas/talents using various production and storytelling techniques.

Each project will emphasize the pre-production; or planning stage; creating storyboards; writing script; and purposeful composition.

Students will become versed in various software applications including: Apple Final Cut Express; Apple LiveType; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe Illustrator; Adobe Premiere Pro; Adobe After Effects; Apple Garageband; Audacity and Open Office.

Students will learn and utilize elements of analysis; interpretation; and evaluation in preparing their work for competitions and film festivals. Regular screenings and critiques in a positive learning environment take place at least once every two weeks.

Students enrolled in this class will have opportunities to travel and compete in video production competitions across the state as well as be members in our SkillsUSA CTSO chapter.
