Course description

This course surveys both the study of general concepts used to interpret U.S. politics and economics and the analysis of specific examples. Within the analysis of the structures of local; state; and national institutions of government; emphasis will focus on the interaction between competing forces that drive the dynamics of policy and citizenship. Using a humanities-based approach; students will assess the development of political character from the origins in foundational sources and as well as throughout significant examples from the present and recent past. Students will refine their abilities as communicators of the social sciences in a variety of forms and with a focus on assessing the current dynamics of the American political identity.
