Course description

This 2-credit course is required of all sophomores at City High School and satisfies both the 10th grade English as well as the US History standards for the state of AZ. Humanities II is an interdisciplinary course. Students examine important thematic threads of Power; Independence; Society; Culture; and Progress; as they attempt to respond to essential questions such as how does the past influence the present? And what does it mean to be an American? Students take a chronological approach to the study of American history and literature to understand how human creations and activities have expressed the various values and beliefs of people in America from the pre-colonial era to the present. Students also examine how various events and trends in American history affected and continue to affect; the lives of people living in Tucson and southern Arizona.
