This course will provide a survey of Western Civilization from antiquity to the mid-fourteenth century.  Students will analyze major economic; social; religious; intellectual; scientific; and artistic movements over time; and their development on the world today; as well as His Kingdom.   A variety of instructional methods will be used including lecture; discussion; debate; independent research; web-based learning; and working in teams.  Students will focus on critical and abstract thinking skills; reading primary and secondary sources; performing independent research; writing historical essays; and the influence on Christ on the development of Western thought.  An important goal of this course is to prepare students for their roles as Christians and citizens in the 21st century; as part of a rapidly changing world; in which a rich understanding of history and its impact on the present and future is integral for the purpose of being in line with our citizenship in heaven (Philippians 3:20).
