ChemistryPre-requisite
Biology, Algebra ICourse description
Chemistry gives students a deeper understanding of the world around them as they investigate how chemistry is involved in everyday life.† Students explore fundamental chemistry content and concepts; inculding the metric system; the periodic table; atomic structures; bonding; chemical reactions; and nuclear reactions.† They apply their knowledge and science process skills through labs that use common; household obects in order to explore the practicality of chemistry.† Students also utilized provided lab materials to complete more extensive labs and also virtual labs.† The course requires students to use fundamental algebra skills to solve problems.† Course topics include the atom; defining matter; acids and bases; polar bonds and molecules; solutions; ionic bonding; thermochemistry; and nuclear reactions.† Chemistry is a textbook free course.
This course is delivered virtually through daily live class instruction of 50 minute periods; or blended with weekly live class instruction of one hour and daily asynchronous learning.† Students in the blended class are expected to spend 50 minutes per day in their asynchronous course materials.† Both courses follow the same scope and sequence and syllabus.† The course is 1 credit; and is NCAA approved.† All students receive a lab kit in the mail for materials needed for hands on labs.† Labs are also completed virtually.† A comprehensive list of labs can be found in the syllabus.
